October Promise

Dorothy Bridges

It is six o'clock.
Should I, alone, mark the date.
A time that once belonged to two.
The day once used to celebrate.
The married life of me and you.
Or is it better to forget,
To overlook that special day
And not go counting up the years.
Instead subtract the pain away.
My heart just answered...now I know
What life is left, what Time allows.
I will always keep the very hour
My love and I exchanged our vows.
